Though Bangladesh lost to Pakistan by 58 runs, some of the senior players achieved a few milestones which have gone largely unnoticed. Sakib al Hasan, former captain and a leading one-day all-rounder, perhaps achieved the most important feat as he overtook Mohammad Ashraful to become the most successful batsman for Bangladesh in one-day cricket. Here are the milestones:
Sakib al Hasan
Sakib had the chance to topple Ashraful in the previous game in Dhaka. But he was out for 34 runs meaning he still needed nine runs to cross Ashraful’s record 3,397 runs in one-dayers. Sakib did exactly the same and with 3,398 runs he is now the leading one-day run-scorer for Bangladesh. Sakib played 49 matches less than Ashraful to achieve the mark.
Mushfiqur Rahim
When Mushfiqur Rahim took the catch of Sohail Tanvir off Mahmudullah he completed his 100th dismissal in one-day cricket. Mushfiq, who has now 71 catches and 30 stumpings to his name, is the second Bangladeshi wicketkeeper to achieve the feat in his 104th ODI. His predecessor Khaled Mashud has 126 ODI dismissals, playing as many matches.
Abdur Razzak
With his 3-21 Abdur Razzak became the first Bangladeshi bowler to take 100 wickets on home soil. Razzak, the leading one-day wicket-taker for Bangladesh with 179 wickets, achieved the feat playing only 63 matches at home. Sakib al Hasan with 85 wickets from 59 matches is his nearest rival.
Mahmudullah
Mahmudullah needed to bowl only seven balls to record his career best bowling figure of 3-4. Coming on to bowl as late as in the 44th over, Mahmudullah mopped up the tail of Pakistan, leaving his previous best bowling figure of 3-13 behind him. Incidentally, Mahmudullah recorded his previous best last time when he bowled in a one-day match against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo earlier this year.
Shafiul Islam
Shafiul Islam became only the eighth Bangladeshi paceman to take 50 or more wickets in one-day internationals when he scalped Mohammad Hafeez in the fourth ball of the match. Shafiul achieved the mark in his 43rd match. The record could have easily gone to his regular bowling partner Rubel Hossain, who was left stranded at 48 wickets from 37 matches. Rubel was rested from this with the Test series in mind. The bowlers who have achieved the feat are Abdur Razzak, Sakib al Hasan, Mashrafee bin Murtaza, Mohammad Rafique, Khaled Mahmud, Syed Rasel and Tapash Baishya.
