The drainage system at the Sher-e-Bangla national stadium did a wonder once again as it prevented the Asia Cup final between Bangladesh and India from being washed out on Sunday.
Heavy downpour coupled with gusty wind made the game all but uncertain as part of the ground went under ankle-deep water. Rain did not stop until 7:40pm meaning a game was highly unlikely as the time was running short for the grounds staff to prepare it for at least some action.
An unexpected power failure that left three floodlights dysfunctional made their job even harder.
An Indian journalist commented that if there was similar rain in Kolkata’s Eden Garden there would not have any chance for the game to take place.
But Sher-e-Bangla grounds men prepared it in little over one hour enabling the match officials to hold at least 15-over-a-side match.
It earned them huge plaudits from the international media present at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.
