Miscreants stabbed four police personnel in the Sylhet city Thursday night.
The injured were identified as the reserved police personnel —Mridul,
Nazmul, Ripan and Rahul, sources in the police said.
Sakibul Hasan Parvej, one of the attackers, was arrested along with a knife from the compound of Hazrat Shahjalal shrine in the city after the incident, the sources said.
Local shopkeepers said a group of young men stabbed the policemen at Chowhatta in the city at around 10:30pm on Thursday, following an altercation with the cops.
Local traders admitted the victims to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital after the incident, they said.
Being contacted, Sylhet Metropolitan Police additional deputy commissioner Mohammed Ayub confirmed New Age of the incident of attack and said the four police personnel came under attack when they were returning to the district police lines after watching a cinema.
Kotwali police officer-in-charge Ahmed Nasir Uddin said they arrested one of the attackers, Parvej, along with a knife by conducting a drive in the shrine area immediately after the incident.
‘In the primary interrogation, the arrested admitted his involvement in the attack on police,’ the police officer said, adding that they were trying to arrest the rests of the attackers.
