The body of the pilot who went missing after a private flying club training plane crashed in the River Jamuna in Sirajganj on Saturday, was found on Sunday.
A Cessna 152 of the Bangladesh Flying Academy crashed into the river at Chauhali in the district on Saturday morning. One of the pilots, Shamsuddin Miah, 25, could jump into the river just before the crash. He was rescued by the local people. The other pilot, Md Kamrul Hasan, 28, had gone missing.
The plane headed towards the Bangabandhu Bridge from Dhaka crashed when it tried to make an emergency landing on a shoal after its engine suffered problems.
Rajshahi divisional fire fighters, who traced the body, said they had also located the plane that plunged into the river.
The Rajshahi division deputy director of fire servie, Md Mizanur Rahman, said a group of divers from Dhaka, Rangpur and Rajshahi under the supervision of an army official, recovered the body.
The body was handed over to the family on Sunday noon. The body was first taken to Manikganj and then to Dhaka.
Rescue team of army, navy police and fire fighters left the place of accident in the afternoon without salvaging the plane that was located earlier.
