The teachers of Madan Mohan College in Sylhet on Tuesday observed work abstention as miscreants beat a lecturer of the college on Monday night.
A group of miscreants, armed with hockey sticks, beat Biplab Chandra Roy to serious injury. Miscreants beat him at Lamabazar in the city around 9:00pm on Monday when was returning home.
Fellow teachers of the college gave a 72-hour ultimatum to the administration demanding immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of the criminals involved with the attack.
They also threatened with a movement of indefinite period of time if the demand was not met by this time, sources in the teachers said.
The decisions came out from a staff council meeting held at the college in the morning, the sources said.
Being contacted, Madan Mohan College staff council secretary Jayanta Das confirmed New Age of the news of ultimatum.
‘The wounded teacher was admitted to a private hospital after the incident in the night,’ Jayanta Das said.
