Stalkers attack Rajshahi school over protest
Four were jailed for varying terms by mobile courts on Thursday on charges of harassing girl students in Shariatpur, Jhenaidah and Gopalganj. Mobile courts against harassment of girls and women started functioning on the day.
Stalkers, meanwhile, attacked the Chandipur High School and beat some students at Bagha in Rajshahi on the day as the schoolboy protested at their harassing girl students.
A mobile court in Shariatpur jailed for six months Robin Sardar, 16, on charges of harassing girls of Damudda Girls’ High School, according to news agency bdnews24.com.
The school authorities earlier informed the police of the matter the girls had levelled the allegations.
Judicial magistrate Utpal Bhattacharya also fined Robin Tk 500 and said he would need to be in jail for 15 more days if he would fail to pay the fine. The accused was present in court.
The news agency also said Rubel, a resident of Goyaspur in the Jhenaidah district headquarters, had been jailed for six months on charges of harassing a girl and stabbing her brother when he lodged a protest.
Magistrate Sajebur Rahman jailed Rubel for harassing the girl, a Junior School Certificate exams candidate, in front of the Government Boys’ School. He also stabbed the girl’s brother.
The Jhenaidah police officer-in-charge, Sagir Mia, said the magistrate and the police visited the place after they had been informed of the matter.
A court in Gopalganj jailed Dulal Sheikh, 26, and Manju Sheikh, 25, residents of Muksudpur. Dulal was jailed for a month and Manju for 20 days, the New Age correspondent in the district said.
The police said the young men had harassed a girl student of the Baniarchar High School for long.
The correspondent in Rajshahi said the Chandipur school headmaster, Nazrul Islam, told New Age Chanchal Hossain, a resident of Bagha, used to harass a girl.
Chanchal along with others threatened Sakibul Islam, a student of the school, as he lodged his protests, the headmaster said.
He also said Chanchal and others entered the school on Thursday and started beating Sakibul Islam and his fellows Sarajul Islam, Milon and others.
The teachers at one point rescued the students and the Chanchal and his friends left the place.
