Model-turned actor Monalisa has already performed in many plays and has won some awards including the BIMA Award from London, Bangladesh Reporters Association award, Dhallywood award from America, Channel-i performance award and the Meril Daily Prothom Alo award ’02.
One of the promising actors in the small screen, Monalisa, entered the media as a ramp model, and within a short span of time, she won popularity through her eye-catching presence in television commercials.
However, Monalisa has become very choosy as far as TV plays are concerned. Monalisa, who is again busy with TV plays after a respite, believes that any actor’s frequent appearance on television screens causes annoyance to viewers thus decreasing his or her importance. ‘On the other hand, if an actor appears on screen in lapses, the fans becomes more interested in watching plays performed by him or her,’ she said.
‘Actually, I don’t like working in so many plays. I only express interest when I find a good script,’ she says.
She points out that she is busy at the moment with plays mostly for the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha including ‘Before Eid-ul-Azha’, ‘Apur Ekdin’ and ‘Path Bhule Dhekha’.
The script of the drama ‘Apur Ekdin’, directed by Mahfuz Ahmed, chronicles a whole day in the life of Apu, who cannot put up with pervasive anomalies in the society. However, like others, he is compelled to avoid such annoyances. ‘I am taking the role of the beloved of the young man, who loves the man passionately,’ Monalisa concludes.
