The newly elected khulna city mayor, Moniruzzaman Moni, took over the charges of the Khulna City Corporation office on Wednesday.
The charge handover function was held at the Nagar Bhaban in presence of the 41 ward councillors, 10 female members of the reserved seats and other officials.
The Awami League Khulna unit president, Ajmol Ahmed Tapon, also the KCC acting mayor, handed over charges to the new mayor.
The newly elected councillors would take over charges of their respective wards on Thursday after attending the first general meeting with the mayor in the chair, the officials said.
The BNP candidate Moniruzzaman Moni polled 1,80,093 votes defeating his nearest rival AL candidate Talukder Abdul Khaleque by a margin of over 60,000 votes.
