Month-long mourning begins
A month-long mourning programme began yesterday commemorating the assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most of his family members on August 15, 1975.
The ruling Awami League and various political and cultural organisations have chalked out elaborate programmes to observe the month.
Bangabandhu Smriti Sangrakkhan Parishad, Joybangla Sangskritik Oikya Jote, Awami Sangskritik Forum and Bangabandhu Shilpi Gosthi have already announced their programmes including discussion, recitation, milad and doa-mahfil.
Bangabandhu Smriti Sangrakkhan Parishad started its programmes through holding a discussion, recitation, milad and doa-mahfil at its office yesterday. They will distribute food among the destitute people in the city on August 15 and place floral wreaths at the portrait of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Bangabandhu Bhaban, Road-32, Dhanmondi.
Bangladesh Awami Sangskritik Forum will begin its month-long programme through staging a mock execution of the killers of Bangabandhu in front of National Press Club tomorrow.
Amra Muktijoddhar Santan, an organisation of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad and children of the freedom fighters, announced to observe the month as “August: kashto O kalangker mash” [August: month of pain and stain].
Convener of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad Helal Murshed Khan inaugurated the programme yesterday by placing wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu on Road 32, Dhanmondi.
Twelve killers of Bangabandhu and his family members were also symbolically hanged at the programme.
To mark the 34th death anniversary of Bangabandhu, Joybangla Sangskritik Oikya Jote also organised a discussion at Silverdale High School in Wari yesterday.
Their month-long programme includes holding discussions, wearing black badges, condolence rally and recitation. They also published a poetry book titled “Pitri Purush and Pita” and will organise essay and handwriting competitions.
