Mourning in all pry schools today
The government declared mourning in all primary schools for today after seven schoolchildren on their way back home in a bus from a picnic died in traffic accident at Chaugachha in Jessore on Saturday night.
The deceased schoolchildren were buried in graveyards at Benapole on Sunday evening.
All primary schools of Sharsha in Jessorre remained closed for Sunday, flowing black flags to mourn the death of the students. Local people in the Benapole municipality began a three-day mourning programmes on the day.
Fourteen of the injured, who were being treated in local hospitals, were moved to Combined Military Hospital in Jessore.
The primary and mass education minister, Mustafizur Rahman, said that all primary schools would mourn the death of the seven students.
Mustafizur Rahman said that special prayer sessions would be held in the primary schools during during assembly.
Akhi, 10, Suriya, 8, Shanta, 6, Mithila, 7, Shahanara, 9, Sabbir, 8 and Aakil, 7—died as the bus carrying them headed off the road into a ditch. At least 70 others became wounded. They were students of the Gazipur Government Primary School located near the Benapole frontiers.
The students who survived the accident said that they had gone to Mujibnagar in Meherpur for a picnic and the accident took place on their way back home.
Several thousand people visited the families at Chhota Anchra, Nanajgram and Gazipur and joined the funeral rites. Their namaz-e-janaza was held in a playing field at Benapole.
The Chaugachha police officer-in-charge, Matiar Rahman, said none could be arrested in this connection and no case had been filed till evening.
Shahrsha upazila education officer Wahiduzzaman said that special prayers said also in all secondary schools in the upazila.
