Celebrated Indian singer and lyricist Moushumi Bhowmik performed some of her popular songs on the concluding day of a two-day programme marking the 103rd birth anniversary of Satyen Sen.
Organised by Bangladesh Udichi Shilpigoshthi with the slogan ‘Esho gana sangeeter aynai dekhi swadesher mukh’, the annual peoples’ song competition and festival ‘Satyan Sen Gana Sangeet Utsab O Jatiya Gana Sangeet Pratijagita 2011’ began on March 27 on the Bangladesh Shilapakal Academy premises.
Moushumi Bhowmik began her performance with her most popular song ‘Ami shunechhi sedin tumi’. She rendered some more of her popular numbers including ‘Ami khujechhi tomai’, ‘Jessore road’ and ‘Amar kichhu katha chhilo’. She also performed Gana Sangeet ‘Maran shiyore daladali kore ki hobe’ and ‘Kothai gelo tara bhora deho’.
Another Indian singer Satyaki Banerjee, who is also a member of Mowshumi’s band Parapar, performed at the programme. Later Satyaki and Moushumi performed a duet song ‘Guru tor doyai’.
Earlier, the concluding day’s programme began with the final performances of the participants which took place in the academy’s Dance and Music Centre auditorium in the morning. A total of 45 young singers and seven groups from seven cultural organisations from across the country took part in the competition.
Winners of the competition also performed in the music programme. Dyuti Biswas from Khulna stood first, Tahrima Binte Yahiya from Chandpur became the second and Sadiya Hasan Mona from Dhaka became third in the ‘Ka’ category of the competition.
In the ‘Kha’ category, Swarnamoyi Mandal from became first, Nusrat Imam Bulti from Mymensingh and Imran Hossain Tarjan from Barisal jointly became second and MA Momin from Dhaka became the third in the competition.
In the group competition, Bangabandhu Sangiskritik Jote from Dinajpur became first, Udichi Chittagonj district unit became the second and Udichi Magura district unit became the third.
The organisers launched a music album titled ‘Gana Manusher Gaan’ featuring peoples’ songs. Theatre actress Shimul Yusuf unveiled the album at the programme.
The organisers and guests including Moushumi Bhowmik handed over prizes to the winners of the competition in the afternoon.
