US Ambassador Dan W Mozena on Wednesday met BNP vice-chairman Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury at his residence in the city, reports UNB.
They had nearly an hour-long meeting from 10am at Shamsher Mobin’s Banani DOHS residence but the content of the meeting could not be known. Contacted, Shamsher Mobin told UNB that Mozena had been at his residence just to exchange New Year’s greetings, nothing else.
“Ambassador Mozena regularly meets with his counterparts in the diplomatic community, civil society, political leaders, and the govt of Bangladesh as part of his normal day-to-day activities in Bangladesh,” US Embassy Spokesperson Kelly McCarthy said. On Tuesday, Mozena met BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and renewed his country’s call to Awami League and BNP to engage in a ‘serious dialogue’ immediately to find an agreed way forward for ‘free and fair’ elections in Bangladesh when the government remained rigid with the January 5 polls.
On Monday, British High Commissioner in Dhaka Robert Gibson met Khaleda Zia at her house.
