Chennai Super Kings are set to bring their fifth Indian Premier League trophy home, and as there have been speculations that it might be the last season of their skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the 41-year-old is planning to bow out on a victorious note. Though there are no confirmations yet, ‘MSDians’ across the country are not missing out on any opportunity to see him play live.
The jam-packed stadiums echoing with ‘Dhoni, Dhoni’ chants are a testament to the love people carry for him in their hearts. Recently, Indian commentator Harsha Bhogle asserted that the CSK skipper’s fans wouldn’t let him retire even if the cricketer reaches a certain age.
Speaking to Cricbuzz, Bhogle said, “Fans won’t allow MS Dhoni to retire even when he is 75 years old.” The aura that the Ranchi-born cricketer carries with himself is simply unexplainable. Be it using his presence of mind on the ground to manage the players or ensuring a smile on the faces of those who admire him with his heartwarming gestures, the ‘Thala’ to his fans enjoys a fandom as no other cricketer does.
Ever since the beginning of IPL 2023, there have been rumours that Dhoni is playing his last IPL. However, when Bhogle asked Dhoni during a post-match presentation, whether fans would see him play next year again, he simply said that he hasn’t given much thought to this.
Speaking of the tournament, Dhoni led his side to the grand finale of the tournament for a record 10th time. The Yellow Brigade is set to challenge the reigning champions, Gujarat Titans, to get their fifth IPL trophy. The final is slated to take place on May 28, Sunday, at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
