Mohammedan Sporting Club failed to retain an early lead as they played a 1–1 draw against Sheikh Russel KC in their Group B match of the Super Cup at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Tuesday.
The result made the last match of the group which is between Sheikh Russel and Muktijoddha Sangsad very crucial as the luck of the all three teams of this group depends on the match.
The traditional black-and-whites who played a 2–2 draw against Muktijoddha Sangsad in their group round’s other match now have two points in their tally while Sheikh Russel and Muktijoddha have one points each.
So both Sheikh Russel and Muktijoddha will be trying their best to win the match to avoid the complexity of scoring rate calculation.
Sheikh Russel coach Mahmudul Haque Liton, who is disappointed with his foreign players and thinks that the reluctance of foreigners is responsible for Sheikh Russel’s decline, said that they had no other option but to win the next match.
‘Our team is very much dependent on our foreign collection but they are very apathetic. They do not come to practice regularly and are not very keen on getting a good result which put us in such a critical situation,’ Liton said.
Mohammedan, however, got off to a good start in the day’s match when their playmaker Touhidul Alam, on loan from Feni Soccer, put the Motijheel club ahead just four minutes after the beginning heading in a Mamun Khan free kick from left.
Mohammedan kept the pressure on their opponents till the end of the match but Sheikh Russel’s Guinean forward Ismael Bangoura equalised in the 43rd minute finishing from close after splitting the Mohammedan defence in a solo effort.
