Mohammedan Sporting Club rode on Suktara’s all-round performance to retain their championship in the 4th Women’s Club Cricket League after beating Gulshan Youth Club by 52 runs in the final at BKSP on Tuesday.
This was Mohammedan’s third title in four seasons of the competition.
Opting to bat first, Mohammedan posted a challenging 158-8 at the end of their allotted 40 overs with opener Suktara guiding them with a superb 118-ball 67 runs knock. She struck eight fours and a six in her valuable innings.
Suktara added 70 runs for the opening partnership with Shaila Sharmin (19) and was well supported by Tazia Akther (10) and Fahima Khatun (17) later.
Lata claimed two wickets for GYC as their wayward bowling saw them give away 31 extras.
In reply, GYC were in trouble from the very first ball when MSC skipper Salma bowled Lata for a duck. GYC were eventually all out for 106 as they kept losing wickets in regular intervals.
Coming in at number four, Shahanaz Parveen was not out on 36 as Suktara cleaned the last four batswomen to end with bowling figures of 4-14.
Suktara was adjudged as the player of the match for her match winning contribution while GYC’s Lata Mandal (240 runs and 10 wickets) received the player of the tournament award.
