Sheikh Russell Krira Chakra received further blow after Mithun Chowdhury joined Asiad squad, when Mohammedan Sporting Club refused to release their five players to play for them in the AFC President’s Cup final round starting in Sri Lanka from September 20.
Mohammedan Sporting Club sent a letter to the Bangladesh Football Federation on Thursday regarding the issue.
Earlier, Mohammedan agreed to lend their five players – Zahid Hasan Ameli, Zahid Hossain, Mamun Khan, Nahidul Islam and Emon Babu – to Russell to play in the final round of the AFC President’s Cup.
The players were also training with Russell for the last two weeks.
‘We received a letter from Mohammedan SC today [Thursday] signed by the club’s member-secretary Lokman Hossain Bhuiyan about not giving permission to their five players to play for Sheikh Russell,’ said BFF general secretary Abu Nayeem Sohag on Thursday.
‘In the letter they [Mohammedan] said that due to their preparations for the Super Cup they decided not to allow their players to play for Russell,’ added Sohag.
Meanwhile, Russell, who moved into the final round of the AFC President’s Cup as the first Bangladeshi side, tried to form a strong side by hiring some top players from other clubs.
But Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club refused to give their players to Russell and now Mohammedan have also done the same.
