Loot Tk 4.25 lakh
Unidentified muggers stabbed an employee of Bata Shoe Company to death before snatching Tk 4.25 lakh from him at Barutkhana in Sylhet city yesterday.
Rokibul Islam Rajib, 25, hailing from Sardarpara under Bakshiganj upazila in Jamalpur district, was in charge of Bata’s depot at Dakshin Surma in the city.Rajib’s colleague Khorshed Alam said a group of four muggers riding on two motorbikes had intercepted their rickshaw on way to Dutch-Bangla Bank Ltd at Baruthkhana around 6:00pm.
Khorshed said they were going to the bank to deposit the money.
The muggers had stabbed Rajib severely before fleeing the scene with the bag of money, he added.
Critically injured Rajib was rushed to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital where the on duty doctors declared him dead.
Ahmed Nasir Uddin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kotwali Police Station, said the muggers had stabbed Rajib on his back and hands.
In a separate incident, an official of Orion Pharma came under attack by muggers in the city’s Housing Estate area under Airport Police Station around 1:30pm.
He was admitted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital with stab wounds on his hands.
The pedestrians had caught a mugger named Soleman, and handed him over to the police while two others managed to escape the scene by a car, said OC Khairul Fazal of Airport Police Station.
He added that they were trying to nab other members of the gang.
