An officer of Rapid Action Battalion was shot by muggers
during a drive in the capital’s Mirpur area on Tuesday.
The victim was Ripon Mia, a deputy assistant director at RAB headquarters.
He was hit by three bullets in the right leg.RAB also arrested an alleged mugger Kamrul Hanan, 35, along with a pistol, two bullets, a magazine and a motorcycle from his possession.
Habibur Rahman, media wing director of the elite force, said acting on a tip-off that some muggers preparing for mugging in the Mirpur area, Rab members conducted a drive in the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium area at around 12:00 on Tuesday.
As Ripon Mia captured a mugger, he open fired on him, leaving him injured, Ripon said.
Ripon was taken to the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka later.
Later in a drive in the area, RAB nabbed Kamrul along with a pistol, two bullets, a magazine and a motorcycle from his possession.
The RAB director said Kamrul himself shot the RAB official with the pistol that was seized.
Filing a case with Mirpur police station was under process, said the Rab director.
