A mugging suspect was lynched and two others were injured in a mob beating in the capital’s East Monipur under Mirpur police station on early Saturday. The deceased was identified as Sohel, 27, and the injured were identified as Yusuf and Babu. Their detail identity could not be known.
Mirpur police station sub-inspector Masud Parvez said some a gang of seven or eight muggers were fleeing after mugging Tk 25,000 and gold jewels from a woman who was coming back to her East Monipur house from village home at about 3:00am on Saturday.
Hearing screams of the woman, locals rushed there and caught Sohel, Yusuf and Babu and gave them a severe thrashing, Masud said.
Later, the locals informed the police, who rushed the scene, rescued the three and rushed them to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where Sohel succumbed to his injures.
The police also recovered five machetes from the scene.
Two cases were filed — one against unidentified people for killing Sohel and the other against the mugging suspects.
