Padma Bridge Loan
Muhith keeps all waiting
Finance Minister AMA Muhith yesterday said the decision on the Padma bridge project would be taken after sitting with the World Bank, Asian Development Bank and Jica.
“I too have a decision,” he said without elaborating further.
The minister was talking to newsmen at his secretariat office yesterday noon.
The revival of the WB loan for the bridge project now hinges on whether prime minister’s economic affairs adviser Mashiur Rahman would resign, say those observing the issue closely.
A finance ministry official said whatever may be the decision on the Padma bridge loan, it would come in the next couple of days.
Muhith is set to leave for China on September 9 to attend the conference of the World Economic Forum. The decision may be taken before his departure, sources at the finance ministry said.
Meanwhile, sources at the Prime Minister’s Office said Mashiur and the premier’s international affairs adviser Gowher Rizvi are leaving for India today, and they are scheduled to return on Friday.
