Muktijoddha Sangsad progressed to second spot in the Nitol Tata Bangladesh Premier League standings after a resounding 5-0 victory over newly-promoted Uttar Baridhara on Monday at Bangabandhu National Stadium. Mohammed Biplob and Nigerian recruit Nkwocha Kingsley notched a brace each while another Nigerian striker Eleta Kingsley also got his name on the scoresheet.
Their first win after two consecutive draws enabled Muktijoddha to move to within three points of leaders Abahani Limited, who have 18 points from eight matches. Muktijoddha though have played a game more.
Uttar Baridhara, on the other hand, remained at eighth position with six points from eight matches.
Biplob put Muktijoddha ahead in the 21st minute with a powerful right-footer following a through pass from Nigerian defender Eleta Benjamin from the middle of the box.
Nkwocha doubled the lead just two minutes later with a placing shot from a goal-mouth scramble.
Nkwocha got his second and his side’s third in the 28th minute.
The Nigerian forward burst into the box after dodging past two defenders in midfield and thumped a shot which flew past Uttar Baridhara goalkeeper Osman Goni.
Eleta Kingsley made it 4-0 in the 66th minute as his header from a Maruf Ahmed corner sailed into the back of the net.
Biplob sealed the rout in the 78th minute after midfielder Maruf threaded a through pass to the former.
Meanwhile, in the day’s other match, sixth-placed Team BJMC and seventh-placed Brotherss Union played out a goalless draw.
Team BJMC have 11 points from eight appearances while Brothers have 10 points from nine matches.
