One of the suspects of Tuesday’s killing of two construction workers at Badda was killed in a shootout with police in the capital’s Rampura area on Wednesday afternoon.
Police said Mohammad Sohag, 26, received bullet wounds during an exchange of gunshots and succumbed to his injuries at Orthopaedic Hospital (Pongu Hospital) in Agargaon. Mohammad Iqbal Hossain, the officer-in-charge of Badda Police Station, said Sohag, a listed criminal, was one of the gangsters who had killed two construction workers and injured another at Badda a day ago.
A team of Badda police station raided Aftabnagar area of Rampura around 5:00am on a secret information about the presence of the killers there, Iqbal added.
“Sensing police presence, the criminals opened fire at law enforcers, prompting them to retaliate. The gunfight lasted for about 10 minutes,” Iqbal said.
At one stage, the criminals fled the scene leaving Sohag bullet hit, he added.
He said Sohag was arrested in possession of a pistol and was admitted to the Pongu Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries in the afternoon.
Earlier on Tuesday, armed assailants shot dead construction workers Mohammad Milon 26, and Faruk Hossain 24, near Hossain Market of Badda and injured Mahmud, 22, over the refusal of paying extortion.
The owner of the under-construction building, where the gun attack took place, filed a case for the double murder accusing unidentified armed criminals.
Police said few more suspects were also arrested in connection with the double murder. They, however, declined to disclose their identities for the sake of investigation.
