Banned senior umpire Nadir Shah on Tuesday formally appealed to the Bangladesh Cricket Board president to reconsider their decision after receiving his expulsion letter from the BCB recently.
Nadir Shah was banned for 10 years on March 18 after the BCB had conducted a detailed inquiry into allegations of corruption brought on by satellite television channel India TV against match officials during the month of October last year.
The investigation was conducted by a special committee which found him guilty and recommended punishment.
‘I have submitted a mercy letter addressing the board president [Nazmul Hasan] and it was received by the CEO [Nizamuddin Chowdhury],’ said Nadir to reporters at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Monday.
‘Yes, I have learned a lesson and I can assure that I will never get involved with such things in future. I apologise for things that I should never have done,’ added Nadir.
‘I have asked to lift the ban that the cricket board has issued against me as I have already passed a year out of the field and I hope that the board will think about me seriously,’ said Nadir.
‘I am hoping that the board will minimise the
punishment and if the board at least cuts the punishment from 10 years to two to three years then I can make a comeback as an umpire again.’
