‘Ershad not arrested’
The ruling Awami League senior leader Mohammad Nasim Friday urged the members of the law enforcement agencies to get tougher against the leaders and activists of Jamaat-Shibir. “The law enforcers should take stern action against the Jamaat-Shibir activists so that they cannot stand politically in the country,” he said while addressing a press conference after holding a meeting with the representatives of 14-party alliance at the AL chief Sheikh Hasina’s Dhanmondi political office. About Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad, the senior Awami League leader said that JP Chief Ershad was not arrested. He was taken to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) with security for treatment. Welcoming the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for playing a ‘courageous role’ in the execution of the Jamaat leader Abdul Quader Mollah, Nasim said the war crimes’ verdict against Mollah had been executed ignoring all obstacles and the departed souls of the martyrs, who had sacrificed their lives during the liberation war in 1971, had become happy with the execution.
Referring to the statement of the BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, Mohammad Nasim, also the former Home Minister, said that Khaleda Zia’s Thursday’s statement had instigated the leaders and activists of Jamaat-Shibir to go for destructive activities.
“So, no compromise with them who patronise anti-liberation forces,” Nasim insisted.
However, the AL leader called upon the leaders and workers of the 14-party alliance to forge massive resistance against the BNP-Jamaat’s vandalism across the country.
Meanwhile, information adviser to the Prime Minister Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury said that as a nationalist force and a big political force, BNP should give up the association of Jamaat-e-Islami.
Speaking at a discussion at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) auditorium, he said the government had achieved primary success through the execution of Abdul Quader Mollah.
“The nation has started removing the burden of stigma that we have been bearing for the last 42 years through the trial of war criminals,” he said.
“Prime minister Sheikh Hasina has kept her every word, implementing her all electoral pledges like her father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman,” Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury said.
Regarding BNP’s silence after the execution of Abdul Quader Mollah, he said it proved the party had maintained relation with the war criminals.
