Defender Nasiruddin Chowdhury was re-appointed as Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club captain on Thursday ahead of their friendly match against South Korean giants Busan I’Park on Saturday. Sheikh Jamal were crowned the champions of the Bhutan’s King’s Cup last month under the leadership of Nasir. There he performed superbly, which prompted the club officials to re-appoint him as the skipper instead of midfielder Mamunul Islam.
‘In the absence of regular captain Mamunul [Islam], Nasiruddin led the team to the King’s Cup glory in Bhutan,’ Jamal manager Anowarul Karim Helal told reporters on Thursday.
‘He was the captain before Mamunul (Islam) joined last season. So, considering Nasir’s performance, dedication and leadership qualities, we thought we should make him our captain again for the forthcoming season,’ he added.
Helal, however, refused to say anything about taking away the captaincy from Mamunul. It is learnt that the national team skipper’s absence during the King’s Cup due to his engagement with the Indian Super League franchise Atletico de Kolkata, helped the official to make the decision.
