The National Technical Advisory Committee on Covid-19 on Saturday opined that the pandemic guidelines – social distancing, wearing mask and the like – be relaxed as the infection rate in Bangladesh was under control for some days.
The committee made the opinion at its 63rd meeting held virtually. The meeting was presided over by its president professor Mohammad Sahidullah.
The advisory committee came up with the suggestions two days after the World Health Organisation declared that the Covid-19 was no longer a global health emergency.
The national committee, however, advised that health guidelines be maintained at high risk zones like hospital and for people with low immunity as it will help them to get protection from other diseases as well.
The committee also advised the government Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research to improve its observation and surveillance activities to address the spike of any future virus in no time.
The committee also advised the Hajj pilgrimage not to go in touch with camel in the Saudi Arabia.
The committee also suggested analysing scientific data regarding vaccination as well.
Bangladesh identified the first Covid case in March 2020 and later in phases imposed restrictions to combat infection.
