The General Economic Division is going to organise a national dialogue on June 2 on the government’s new development agenda that has set many targets
of the social sector development in the county.
The GED, under the Planning Commission, has drafted the post 2015 development agenda which is now being debated around the world as the terminal year of the Millennium Development Goals is approaching, a senior official of the GED said.
‘So, we are going to finalise the draft at the national dialogue to be held at the Ruposhi Bangla Hotel in the city and the dialogue is expected to be inaugurated by the prime minister, Sheikh Hasina,’ he said.
The government’s new development agenda will be placed before the United Nations general assembly session 2013 to be held in September for discussion and adoption.
Millennium Declaration 2000 embedded the eight MDGs finally with a framework of 21 targets and 60 indicators, he said.
GED member Shamsul Alam told New Age on Sunday that ‘already we have achieved excellent progress in social sector under the MDGs.’
‘Therefore, the Bangladesh’s position to attend the MDGs especially in social sector is top among the 189 nations,’ he said.
‘As per the consultation with the development partners, local experts and officials we are now approaching to the new agenda for the further development in our many development arenas,’ Shamsul also said.
