National Income Tax Day, 2013 was observed in the Barisal city on Sunday to create awareness of income tax and encourage people to pay tax regularly.
The daylong programee, organised by the Barisal regional tax office, included a rally, exchange of views amongst tax officials and payers and award distribution to the long-term and the highest tax payers of the Barisal City Corporation and the six other divisional districts in a ceremony at Barisal Circuit House.
Businessman Kazi Shafikul Islam, city Awami League president Shawkat Hossain Hiron, and Khan Sons Group’s managing director Mojibor Rahman Khan was respectively awarded as the first, second and third highest tax-payer in the city corporation.
Golam Kabir Shikdar of Bakerganj, Ashikul Islam Azad of Banari Para and Abul Kasem Pintu of Mehendiganj was respectively awarded as the first, second and third highest tax-payer in the Barisal.
Barisal income tax region commissioner Proshanta Kumar Kar presided over the programme that was attended by state minister for religious affairs Shahjahan Mia, as the chief guest.
Bangladesh Revenue Board member Md Nasiruddin, Barisal divisional commissioner Nurul Amin, Barisal Chamber of Commerce and Industries president Saidur Rahman Rintu and the awarded tax-payers addressed the ceremony among others.
The tax-payer emphasised introducing the easy tax fixation and collection system, opening advisory center and giving VIP statuses to the regional long term and highest tax payers.s
The officials informed that the income tax collection and the number of tax-payers in the Barisal taxation region, were increasing gradually.
A weeklong income-tax fair would be arranged from September 16-22 at Ashwini Kumar Hall in the city, the organisers informed.
