Police recovered the body of a female college teacher from a rented house in Balaripara of Natore town, who married a student after six months of a love affair, from home early today.
Deceased Khairun Nahar was an assistant professor of Philosophy department of Khubjipur Mozammel Haque Degree College in Gurudaspur upazila of the district.
Nasim Ahmed, Natore police station Officer-in-charge (OC) confirmed media that police primarily suspected that the teacher died by suicide.
Mamun Hossain, Khairun Nahar’s husband, has been taken into police custody for questioning, police said.
Criminal Investigation Department (CID) personnel from Rajshahi reached the spot and collected samples around noon. The body was sent to Natore Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
The teacher, aged 40, recently made news when her romance with Md Mamun Hossain, 22, came to light more than six months after their marriage.
On June 24, 2021, Mamun, a second-year degree student at NS Government College in Natore, was introduced to Khairun through social media. Mamun resides in the village of Patpara in the Gurdaspur upazila. They later got married on December 12.
Following the disclosure of their marriage on July 31, it swiftly gained attention in both social and mainstream media.
