Members of Bangladesh Navy rescued 16 fishermen from a sunken fishing boat in the River Karnaphuli in Chittagong Monday night.
The fishing boat, ‘FB Arifa-2’ carrying the fishermen overturned around 9:00pm due to strong current in the river after its engine went out of order while heading towards Ghat No-15 from Majhighat, said an ISPR release on Tuesday.
Strong current started washing away the fishermen after the boat capsized.
On information, Navy’s Special Warfare Dividing and Salvage members rushed in with a speedboat and rescued the fishermen alive.
The Navy unit members also salvaged the sunken fishing boat with a tug boat around 4:00am on Tuesday.
