The National Board of Revenue has decided to provide tax exemption on donations that will go to Gandhi Ashram Trust located in Noakhali, officials of the NBR said.
At its board meeting held on Tuesday, the NBR
made the decision considering the Trust as a non-profitable social and service-oriented organisation, they said.
According to the NBR decision, any individual or organisation will get tax rebate for donation up to 30 per cent of its income of a year to the Trust.
The 30 per cent, however, should not be more than Tk 1.5 crore, the officials said.
Earlier, Gandhi Ashram Trust applied for the facility as it operates a museum titled Gandhi Museum, a primary school, a high school and other rural development activities.
Gandhi Ashram Trust, a charitable and development organisation, was established in Noakhali in 1947 in memory of Mahatma Gandhi’s visit to the area during communal riots in 1946.
