The National Board of Revenue is going to honour 131 business organisations today in recognition of their contribution in revenue collection by paying highest value-added tax in the national and district levels in the financial year 2011-2012.
Nine VAT payers at the national level and 122 VAT payers at district level will be awarded for the highest VAT paying under three categories — production, services and business — to encourage taxpayers paying tax, officials of the NBR said.
Koilastila Gas Field, Bureau Veritas Consumer Products Services Bangladesh Limited and Quasem Drycells Ltd secured the top positions at national level under production, services and business categories respectively.
Finance minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith is scheduled to hand over crests and certificates to the selected VAT payers at a programme at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre organised to observe National VAT Day 2013 for the third consecutive year.
The NBR will also observe the VAT Week from July 10–16 to create awareness among businesses to pay VAT properly.
The business organisations that have been selected for awards for paying highest VAT at the national level are Koilastila Gas Field (Sylhet), Rashidpur Gas Field (Habiganj), Haripur Gas Field (Sylhet), Bureau Veritas Consumer Products Services Bangladesh Limited (Savar), DHL Worldwide Bangladesh Ltd (Gulshan), Onmobile Global Ltd (Dhaka), Quasem Drycells Ltd (Dhaka), Tianshi Bangladesh Co Ltd (Dhaka) and Aarong (Uttara).
The 21 VAT payers from the Dhaka Division are Techno Venture Ltd (Savar), ISD Inter School (Bashundhara), Aarong (Moghbazar), ANZ Copper Industries Ltd (Munshiganj ), Mala Mishtanna Bhandar (Munshiganj ), Selim & Brothers (Munshiganj ), Abul Khair Steel Products Ltd (Narayanganj), Secura Bangladesh Ltd (Narayanganj), RH Trading (Narayanganj), RFL Plastic Ltd (Narsingdi), Aqua Mineral Water and Solvent Plants (Gazipur), De Costa Utilities Service (Gazipur), Marico Bangladesh Ltd (Gazipur), Runner Motors (Mymensingh), Uttara Motors (Mymensingh), Supersign Industries (Manikganj), Raz Hotel & Restaurant (Manikganj), Mahin Traders (Manikganj), Masafi Bread and Biscuit Industries Ltd (Tangail), Jupiter Enterprise (Tangail) and Hemas Consumer Brands Ltd (Jamalpur).
The officials said that country’s leading and well-known business houses had been left from the list due to disputes over VAT with the revenue board while tax defaulting business houses were also not considered for the award.
The awardees will enjoy a number of privileges for one year from the issue date of the award, including priority while reserving seats in public transports and access to VIP lounges at the airports.
Their spouses and children will also get priority while reserving cabins in the public hospitals while the awardees will get invitations to national programmes, including any citizens’ reception organised by the municipalities and city corporations.
