All the excitements of first round matches of the National Cricket League was dampened as not a single ball could be bowled in any of the four matches in different venues on Sunday.
Torrential rain with the influence of low pressure created in Bay of Bengal is expected to continue today and chance of any further play in the final day is very slim.That would mean all four matches in Bogra, Khulna, Fatullah and Rajshahi are seemingly heading towards draw.
However, Barisal will gain some extra points against Rajshahi even if no further play occurs thanks to their first innings lead.
That is the only match so far that has seen a completion of first innings from both the sides.
Barisal scored 302 in their first innings before folded their opponents for just 93 runs thanks to a 6-31 of Tawhidul Islam.
In second innings they made 160 to set Rajshahi a target of 370 before the hosts made 25-0 at the stumps on day two.
Barisal will gain total of nine points, two for scoring over 300 overs, three for getting opponents all out, three for a draw and one for a first innings lead if the play does not resume. It will also give Rajshahi six points – three for dismissing Barisal and three for draw.
In Bogra at around 12:45 pm umpires called the day off due to incessant rain where Rangpur were on 266-5 replying Dhaka Metropolitan’s first innings score of 238.
Match referee Obayedul Azam called off the day’s play between Khulna Division and Dhaka Division at around 12:30 pm in Khulna.
The match that faced rain interventions even on the second day could not see the completion of the first innings from both the sides.
Khulna was 19 runs away from Dhaka, scoring 168-4 replying 187 of Dhaka.
Bangladesh’s young pace sensation Mustafizur Rahman grabbed 4-29 and veteran left arm spinner Abdur Razzak picked 4-72 to reduce the Dhaka side for a low score and provided three points for Khulna.
On the other match, not even a single innings was completed as Sylhet was on 352-8 against Chittagong at Fatullah.
Only 30.2 overs were played in the second day and the play of the third day was called off at 1:50 pm leaving Chittagong no opportunity to bat even after three days.
The first round matches of NCL were great opportunities for the Bangladesh’s players before the forthcoming two-Test series against Australia scheduled to start on October 5.
But apart from Mustafizur none other could shine with bat or bowl.
