The Supreme Court authorities have taken administrative reforms programme to bring back discipline and improve the overall environment of court activities, and infuse dynamism in dispensing justice.
Along with the administrative reforms, the authorities are also carrying out cleanliness programme inside the Supreme Court while beautification programme at the Court premises is also on, sources said.
The initiative has been taken as newly appointed Chief Justice Mohammad Fazlul Karim announced that he would make relentless efforts so that people get even-handed justice within the shortest possible time.
On the eve of taking oath of office on February 7, the Chief Justice told reporters that initiatives would be taken to ensure fair justice so that none can say outside the court that there has been injustice in the name of justice.
The Chief Justice also observed that the judges should disclose their wealth for the sake of transparency.”We have taken initiative to increase dynamism in court activities particularly to remove dead-lock of unsettled cases, reduce harassment and ensure proper preservation of files and case documents,” said Supreme Court Registrar Md Shawkat Hossain.
Regarding beautification programme, he said it is being implemented with their existing human resources.
Supreme Court officials said there is shortage of manpower in the apex court and some posts of judges lie vacant after retirement of seven judges.
“As per direction of the Chief Justice, we had to work extra on Friday last to clear back-log of the pending cases and for file work,” said an official preferring anonymity.
AFM Mesbahuddin, president of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) hailed the administrative reform programme being carried out under the direction of the Chief Justice.
“There was allegation of indiscipline among subordinate employees of the court. We are witnessing a good result as the Chief Justice has taken the imitative to bring back discipline,” he told The New Nation.
The SCBA president termed it as a bold decision to bring back discipline and give back up support to the people involved in dispensing justice.
He, however, observed that the Supreme Court should leave the traditional way of maintaining files and records and introduce computer and provide training to the people involved in it as soon as possible.
Regarding appointment of judges, Mesbahuddin said honest, sincere and committed people should be given appointment as judges to ensure justice.
He said that his association is ready to extend all cooperation for improving the environment of the court and quick disposal of cases so that justice is neither delayed nor denied.
