The newly appointed Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof AAMS Arefin Siddque yesterday formally took charge of the office from former DU VC Prof SMA Faiz at around 10:30am.
He said he would take necessary steps for holding the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) elections after talking with the students’ organisations.
“Personally I feel that the Ducsu should remain active since future leaders would be created from here if it remains so. I will make decisions in this regard after talking to students’ organisations,” said the new DU VC briefing journalists at his office.
He sought everybody’s help to ensure congenial academic atmosphere on the campus and said all the necessary steps would be taken to keep the campus violence free.
He also said he would not tolerate anything done violating the laws.
Prof Arefin exchanged pleasantries with leaders of different organisations of the university at his office. Later he placed floral wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar and Bangabandhu’s portrait at Dhanmondi Road-32.
