The National Human Rights Commission chairman, Mizanur Rahman, received a death threat in a short message on his cell phone on Thursday night, said his personal staff on Friday.
‘We have already informed the RAB and DB about the matter and they are investigating it,’ said Kazi Arfan Ashik, the private secretary to NHRC chief.
An unnamed Banglalink subscriber from 01966533896 had sent the text at 8:34pm on Thursday when the NHRC chairman was visiting his village home in Gaibandha, the commission officials told New Age.
‘You are a satan…You make long speeches. It is mandatory [faraz] to kill you. You will be killed in seven days. A single bullet is enough to teach you a lesson,’ the text read.
Before sending the text, the subscriber had called the NHRC chief and asked him not do ‘excesses’ in protecting human rights, the NHRC officials said.
The Detective Branch deputy commissioner (north), Mollah Nazrul Islam, told New Age that they were investigating the matter.
