The Bangladesh Cricket Board decided not to put any bar on the Pakistani players from participating in the forthcoming Dhaka Premier League, said officials on Saturday.
‘The door is open for any cricketer in the Dhaka Premier League,’ Jalal Yunus, chairman of the Cricket Clubs of Dhaka Metropolis, told reporters at Mirpur.‘It is up to the club whether they bring any Pakistani players or not. We don’t have any problems with that,’ said Jalal, a member of the BCB’s ad-hoc committee.
The CCDM held a meeting at the BCB office to discuss the forthcoming DPL that is set to begin from July 1 with the players’ recruitment scheduled for June 20.
The Pakistan Cricket Board stopped their players from taking part in the Bangladesh Premier League’s last edition at the very last minute after Bangladesh decided to avoid their proposed tour for security reasons.
The relationship between the two boards hit an all-time low due to the decision taken by the PCB, though the BCB was eventually successful in completing the tournament without any Pakistani players.
It was speculated that the BCB might stop the Pakistani players from participating in the DPL due to that incident for which they literally had to start everything from scratch after receiving verbal commitment from the players earlier.
A club can buy as many foreign players as they wish but can field only three cricketers in a game.
Jalal added that if they fail to get the venue of BKSP and Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium for the DPL games they will transfer those games to the other venues.
‘If we don’t get those two venues we will play in Rajshahi and Bogra,’ said Jalal.
‘Even if we get those two venues in Dhaka we might opt for another venue to complete the league quickly,’ added Jalal.
CCDM official Hanif Bhuiyan said they are making last minute preparations for the proposed players’ recruitment through rotational policy, a concept very new to the clubs.
‘We decided to provide a guide book to the clubs seven days before the programme so that they can remove their confusion about the system,’ said Hanif.
CCDM could not finalise the grading system and the prices of the players yet as it has not received any opinion from the clubs but was hopeful of completing it within the next three days.
