Mashrafee bin Murtaza has proved even he may fail to deliver a fairytale finish as he failed to help his side Kalabagan reach home against Prime Doleshwar in their Dhaka Premier League match at Fatullah on Tuesday. Chasing Doleshwar’s 287-9 Kalabagan needed a six in the last ball of the match but Mashrafee failed to hit the maximum and got run out while returning for the second run to see his side finish on 283-9 and lost by four runs.
Another national team pacer Al-Amin Hossain showed why he is regarded as one of the best death bowler of the country as the Doleshwar seamer conceded just four runs in that pulsating last over.
Although he could not fetch a wicket in that over but his accuracy created pressure that induced three run outs in last three balls of that over.
Mehrab Hossain Junior, who scored 86 off 87 balls, was the first of those three victims. Kalabagan must rue the fact that there were a total of five run-outs in the innings.
Opener Jashim Uddin (45) and two-down Tasamul Haque(44) had good contribution to keep the chase on track and Mehrab’s 104-run sixth wicket partnership with Tanveer Haider, who made 44 off just 32 balls, took them to a winning position.
And though Mashrafee made 15 off 11, it was not enough in the end.
Rahatul Ferdous got 3-40 for Doleshwar.
Earlier batsman Nasir Hossain showed his class with a blistering 97 off just 75 balls with 11 boundaries and a six.
Nasir, who was adjudged man of the match, missed his century but stayed in the wicket till the penultimate ball of the innings to steer his side to a respectable total.
Doleshwar captain Farhad Reza, who won the toss, gave him a good support with 47 and opener Imtiaz Hossain made a good base with an innings of 73 runs.
Mashrafee picked up 3-50.
This is the second win in as many matches for Doleshwar while Kalabagan have lost both their matches in DPL so far.
