The Bangladesh Cricket Board is all set to shift the planned Twenty20 International match between Bangladesh and New Zealand from Sylhet to Dhaka’s Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, said an official on Saturday. Sylhet was scheduled to host the one-off Twenty20 International match of the series on November 6, but the official said they were forced to think of an alternative after the venue failed get an approval from the International Cricket Council. ‘At the moment it is unlikely for us to see the game progressed in Sylhet,’ said the BCB official. Most probably we are shifting the match in Sher-e-Bangla.’
The BCB had planned to hold the game at the Sylhet stadium as a trial for the ICC World Twenty20, which was expected to be used as one of the four venues.
The ICC board in a meeting on Saturday reviewed the report of its venue consultant on the venues and extended the deadline for completion of the venues till November 30 following a request from the BCB.
The BCB was supposed to hand over the venue to the ICC in October, six months before the tournament, scheduled to be held from March 16 to April 6, 2014.
Sylhet and Cox’s Bazar are the prime concerns for the BCB, though the officials said they have their alternative venue ready. The format and schedule of the event will be announced in Dhaka on October 27.
