Industries Minister Dilip Barua said in Parliament on Tuesday that there is no public industrial unit in the list of sick industries prepared by the Ministry of Industries.
“A taskforce has been formed to update the list of sick industries. The taskforce is now working on preparing the updated list of sick industries,” he said in response to a starred question of Awami League lawmaker Sukumar Ranjan Ghosh (Munshiganj-1). A committee of the taskforce has already scrutinised the applications and finalized 264 and 80 industries as sick industries in two phases.
Responding to another question of ruling party MP Syed Mohsin Ali, Barua said the country’s urea fertiliser factories have been able to produce only 14 lakh tonnes of fertilizer annually.
“Locally produced urea fertilizer meets only 57.14 percent of the total demand. The government meets the remaining 42.86 per cent demand through imported fertilizer,” he said.
The industries minister also informed the House that 60,000 tonnes of TSP and 50,000 tonnes of DAP are produced locally, which are able to meet only 8.88 per cent and 7.69 per cent of their respective total demand.
