The health and family welfare minister, AFM Ruhal Huq, has said there is no reason to be panicked about the spread of the anthrax.
He said anthrax was primarily a disease of herbivores but few numbers of cattle, buffalo and goat were infected with the disease that could be prevented through proper vaccination and other manual controlling measures.
The health minister said this while he was visiting ailing two anthrax patients who were undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Hospital director Brigadier General Mohammad Shahidul Haque Mallik, Burn Unit director Samonto Lal Sen and other senior doctors accompanied the health minister.
Ruhal Huq said the people who were infected with the anthrax had already been brought under treatments.
The government has taken adequate steps to contain its further spread he said adding that affected cattle are being given vaccines.
The minister said there were adequate stocks of vaccines and drugs to treat the anthrax infected animals and people once they were detected.
He said countrywide committees were formed with livestock and health department at district levels to coordinate a campaign to prevent, detect and treat anthrax infections.
He called upon all to refrain from eating anthrax- infected cattle and avoiding close contact with them.
