Awami League joint general secretary and Prime Minister’s special assistant Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif today said the dreams of those who want to repeat a situation like that of 1/11 of 2007 in the country will not be translated into a reality. “We along with people will never let repetition of a precarious situation like that of 1/11 in Bangladesh. Those players (of the caretaker government) who are coming up with various statements now have created the political changeover of 1/11,” he said while speaking as the chief guest at a function in the city.
Hanif’s observation came from the biennial conference of Bangladesh Sugar Mills Employees and Workers Federation held at Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation (BSFIC) building at Motijheel Commercial
Area here.
Federation president Zahidul Islam Latif chaired the conference, also addressed, among others, by Awami League labour affairs secretary Habibur Rahman Siraj and BSFIC chairman Mahmud- ul- Haq Bhuiyan.
Hanif said, “If anybody lauds the country and any party for progress, he or she used to refer to the successes of the two top leaders of two major political parties. So, there’s no scope anymore for repetition of a situation like that of 1/11 in the country.”
Criticising those discussants, who came up with remarks at a recent roundtable held under the aegis of the ‘Civil Society’ at the National Press Club, that “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and opposition leader Begum Khaleda Zia are more powerful than the Mughal kings”, the Awami League joint general secretary said the people of the country made both the top leaders powerful.
