Bangladesh openers Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar, who have suffered some minor injuries during their three-day practice match in Benoni, are unlikely to miss the first Test against South Africa, confirmed Bangladesh a team official. Tamim pulled his muscles while batting on the first day and left the ground retired hurt after scoring five runs facing 13 deliveries. His opening partner Soumya scored 43 runs in the first innings but did not turn up in the second innings as received a blow on his shoulder while he was fielding on the third day.
But Bangladesh physio Thihan Chandramohan confirmed that there was no serious worry about both players and they were kept out of the field only as a precaution.
‘Tamim Iqbal suffered minor muscle injury while batting. But he looks very good and he will train normally in this week and should be able to play the Test match,’ the Sri Lankan physio told reporters at the end of the practice match on Saturday.
‘Soumya, while fielding he just jolt his shoulder, so just as a precaution, we kept him off field today [yesterday] and again he will train normally this week and should be fine,’ he added.
The physio informed that all the players were doing all right and they were getting used to the South African conditions quickly for the Test series.
The first Test will be held at Senwes Park, Potchefstroom from September 28-October 2.
The second Test will be held at Mangaung Oval, Bloemfontein on October 6-10.
