Bangladesh Cricket Board North Zone and Prime Bank South Zone will look for their maiden Bangladesh Cricket League title when they will face off in the final beginning at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium today. North Zone will go into the five-day final slightly as the favourites after knocking out holders Walton Central Zone in the previous round at the BKSP. Batsman Nasir Hossain will lead North Zone, the only franchise without any sponsor, in the absence of their regular captain Muhfiqur Rahim, who is yet to completely recover from illness.
‘Definitely his absence is a blow,’ Nasir said of Mushfiq. ‘With him we could have been a much stronger side. Now I am leading the side with the help of some senior players.’
South Zone skipper Abdur Razzak is confident they can pull off a win despite the opponents having a strong batting line-up.
‘I am confident that we can win the tournament,’ Razzak told reporters after training on Thursday. ‘The way we reached the final it made us confident,’ added the left-arm spinner referring to their six-wicket win over Islami Bank East Zone in the previous match.
‘I think both teams are equal in strength. They are ahead in batting but our bowling is better,’ he said.
The round robin league match between the two teams ended as draw.
