US President Barack Obama has been briefed on the garment factory disaster which killed at least 660 people in Bangladesh and sends thoughts and prayers to the victims, his spokesman said Monday. Spokesman Jay Carney said Obama had been “kept up to date about the tragic developments in Bangladesh and the tremendous loss of life, and I know that his thoughts and prayers go to the victims of that tragedy.” The United States said last week that a number of US manufacturers were supplied by the factory on the outskirts of the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka, where clothes were also made for a host of brand name European retailers. The building, which housed five garment factories, collapsed on April 24.
