Chirkutt’s “Jadur Shahor” in Music Bazar
On International Friendship Day (August 4), four members of epic fusion band Chirkutt — Sumi, Pintu, Rokon and Emon — were seen in front of Geetanjali, at Bashundhara City in the capital. They were busy signing autographs on their recently released album covers for excited friends and fans encircling them.
Chirkutt’s second album “Jadur Shahor” (City of Magic) was launched at a city restaurant on August 2. Parents of Chirkutt members unveiled the album in the presence of the Norwegian Ambassador in Dhaka, officials of Akij Group and Grameenphone, film directors and other celebs. Produced by G-Series, youth drink Mojo sponsored the album.
The album is an apt treat for music aficionados as all the 12 tracks feature a gamut of musical euphoria. The band members poured their lovely passions to give their audience and fans a taste of diverse genres including urban- folk, rock, and classic-fusions.
What make the album stand out are its rich and mellifluous instrumental arrangements, done at Butter Records and Studio Chirkutt, along with thought-provoking lyrics. Chirkutt’s lyrics depict beautiful literary images, poetic imaginations, outstanding allegories and marvelous mystic connotations. For this very reason, Chirkutt fans adoringly call it an epic fusion band. Vocalists Sumi and Pintu penned and composed tunes for eight songs while Sumi and Ananda jointly wrote the rocking title track with Pintu’s tune.
Album’s initial track, a duet, “Ekta Chhera Din” inspires an emotive plea craving for reunion of souls after going through pain and shattered dreams. Sumi’s record of the track “Bondhu Go” infuses the aching tale of a melancholic heart missing her/his friend. In one of his comedies titled “Twelfth Night”, William Shakespeare mentioned, “If music be the food of love, play on; Give me excess of it, that, surfeiting, The appetite may sicken, and so die.” The excerpts go well with the track “Prothom Prem-e Morey Jawar Gaan”, recorded by Sumi while Pintu’s record of the song “Ontoraley” evokes connotations from Vatsayana’s Kama Sutra.
The album has two exclusive classic-fusions — “Jochhonar Gaan”, written and tuned by Rajib [of the promising band “Shohojiya”] and parts of a DL Roy composition “Dhono Dhanno Pushpa Bhora”. Sumi’s mesmerising rendition together with Pintu’s humming and soothing taan throwing has cast a magical spell in the records. The album also has a mystic song “Aaye Kheye Ney Behester Shei Surabon Tohura”, written and composed by the bard Rajjab Dewan. Pintu did justice to the spiritual depth of the number.
Produced by Adhkhana Music [of Shayan Chowdhury Arnob], Chirkutt’s first album titled “Chirkuttnama” was also a big hit in the audio market.
