All the government and private offices and courts in Dhaka opened on Sunday after the three-day long vacation of Eid-ul-Fitr. The attendance of the officials and employees was low at different organisations. Hundreds of thousands of people, who had left the capital for celebrating the Eid at home with relations, have started coming back. The number of officials at the Bangladesh Secretariat, the hub of the country’s administration, was low. But, most of the ministers at the Secretariat joined their offices.
After joining at the duty stations, the government officials and employees exchanged Eid greetings.
Most of the officials said that they had come directly to office after getting back to Dhaka from their village home after celebrating Eid.
The Public Administration Ministry officials said most of the employees had sought for three days’ (August 12, 13 and 14) leave extension due to the strike, called by Jamaat-e-Islami. The employees said that they returned to the capital on Sunday, fearing anarchy ahead of the 48-hour countrywide strike, starting from August 13.
