The national committee to protect oil, gas, mineral resources, power and ports will begin today its four-day countrywide tours for mass contact from the capital to push for its seven-point demands.
The demands of the organisation include the scrapping of the model production and sharing contract 2008 and the deals signed with ConocoPhillips for exploration in offshore gas blocks and the enactment of a law banning export of mineral resources.
Leaders of the organisation will begin the tour in five groups after a rally in front of the National Press Club at 8:30am.
The teams will hold rallies in 50 places, including 40 district headquarters.
The national committee convener, Sheikh Muhammad Shaheedullah and the member secretary, Anu Muhammad, Nur Mohammad, Enamul Haque, Nasim Akter Hossain, Tipu Biswas, Saiful Huq, Ruhin Hossain Prince, Bazlur Rashid Firoz, Ragib Ahsan Munna, Zonayed Saki, Abdus Sattar, Mosharraf Hossain Nannu, Babul Biswas and others will lead the teams.
The first team will travel to Gazipur, Tangail, Sirajganj, Pabna, Natore, Rajshahi, Naogaon, Jaipurhat, Bogra, Gaibandha, Pirganj and Rangpur.
The second team will go to Rajbari, Kushtia, Chuadanga, Jhenaidah, Magura, Jessore, Satkhira, Khulna, Bagerhat and Mongla. The third team will travel to Manikganj, Goalanda, Faridpur, Madaripur, Gopalganj, Pirojpur, Jhalakathi and Barisal.
The fourth team will go to Narsingdi, Brahmanbaria, Habiganj, Srimangal, Maulavibazar, Sylhet and Sunamganj. The fifth team will travel to Narayanganj, Chandina, Comilla, Feni, Mirsarai, Chittagong, Patiya, Chakaria and Cox’s Bazar.
The national committee will take more such programmes in August to cover the remaining districts, a release said.
