Leaders of the national committee to protect oil, gas, mineral resources, power and ports on Tuesday called on all the progressive forces to take part in its week-long Dhaka–Phulbari long march during October 24–30.
The committee will hold the long march to push for its seven-point demands including end to export of national resources, cancellation of unequal production sharing contracts and no open pit coal mining.
The leaders at an exchange of views at Pragatai Sammelan Kendra in the CPB office also sought cooperation of the media in drumming up support for the long mach aimed at saving natural resources of the country.
The committee’s convener Sheikh Muhammad Shaheedullah, who chaired the programme, said the government was making power sector decisions to ‘satisfy imperialist forces.’
The organisation’s member secretary Anu Muhammad said, ‘We must establish full ownership of our natural resources.’
Researcher Nur Mohammad, left politicians Tipu Biswas, Nurul Hasan, Ruhin Hossain Prince, Bazlur Rashid Firoj, Musherfa Mishu and Zonzyed Saki and journalists from the electronic and print media took part in the programme.
Different cultural organisations began mass contract programmes on Tuesday in different parts of the capital with the distribution of leaflets.
Charan Shilpi Goshthi, the cultural front of Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal, will be holding sessions of people’s songs in different parts of the capital from Wednesday.
