Police hunting for two boyfriends
A Dhaka court on Sunday granted a five-day remand to Oishee Rahman, 17, daughter of slain Special Branch inspector Mahfuzur Rahman, and two others in connection with their alleged involvement with the killing of her parents. The two others are domestic help Khadiza Khatun Alias Sumi, 10, and a boy friend of Oishee Mizanur Rahman Rony alias Jony, 25.Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mizanur Rahman passed the order after Paltan police sub-inspector Md Shahidullah Prodhan in his forwarding sought a 10-day remand for Oishee, Sumi and Rony. The Detective Branch of Police produced Oishee and two others before the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate court at around 2:30pm.
Prakash Ranjan Bishwas, lawyer of Oishee and Sumi, pleaded bail for them on grounds that the accused are minors, urging the court to form a juvenile court for them.
Oishee’s father Mahfuzur Rahman, 48, and his wife Swapna Rahman, 40, were found dead at their Chamelibagh flat on Friday afternoon. Oishee, an O level student and their domestic help had been missing since the incident.
Police suspected the killing took place early Thursday. Moshiur Rahman, brother of slain SB inspector Mahfuzur Rahman, filed a murder case with Paltan police station on Saturday, accusing unnamed people. Oishee, 17, surrendered to Paltan police station at around 2:30pm on Saturday and was then taken to the Detective Branch office at Mintu Road in the city. The Detective Branch police detained domestic help Khadiza Khatun Alias Sumi and the boy friend Mizanur Rahman Rony alias Jony.They also picked up three of her friends for interrogation.
Police also interrogated the house security guards Mohammad Motaleb and Mohammad Shaheen; Oishee’s uncles Iftekharul Alam and Rabiul Alam; manager of the Chamelibagh building Jahangir Alam; and the auto-rickshaw driver Oishee had hired for the full day on Thursday.
Meanwhile, in a press briefing at Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Media Centre on Saturday night Detective Branch Joint Commissioner Monirul Islam said, “We are hunting for the two boy friends of Oishyee to unearth the mystery of the killing and cross-checking some information collected in primary interrogation.”
“Her parents restricted her to go out from the house after they came to know that their daughter was addicted to contraband drug Yaba tablets and on July 31 her mother took away her cellular phone in a bid to stop communication with her addicted associates,” Monirul said adding that enraged with the attitudes of her parents she decided to carryout the killing.
